Against Delhi Capitals on April 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mumbai Indians’ skipper Rohit Sharma played some brilliant cricket to help the five-time champions register their first win of the IPL 2023 season. Chasing 173 runs, the opener smashed 65 runs off 45 deliveries and set the tone of the match as Mumbai went on to win the game by six wickets.

Speaking about Rohit’s performance, former India cricketer Ravi Shastri stated that the 35-year-old led by example and this innings will keep him in a positive frame of mind in the upcoming matches.

“He soaked the pressure because that's what the senior players can do. They have been in those situations before; they have the experience and that's why he said it in the last game that it's important to step up to the party. He led from the front and it will do him a world of good, captaining the side as the tournament progresses,” Shastri was quoted as saying on Star Sports.

Once Mumbai get off to a start, they can win two to three games: Shastri

After suffering two back-to-back defeats at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings, things were not looking good for Mumbai. Rohit himself wasn’t in good form while Suryakumar Yadav is currently going through a nightmare. However, most importantly, they managed to win their first game of the season and as per Shastri, they can now go on to win two to three games more, as they have done something similar in the past.

“We have known with Mumbai Indians in the past that once they get off to a start, they can win two to three games on the bounce. So, it's an important game to win and the fact they won in this fashion, handling the pressure in those final overs should stand them in good stead,” the 60-year-old added.

Notably, Mumbai will next take on two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders on April 16 at Wankhede Stadium.
