Rohit Sharma makes cricket look a 'very simple game': Virender Sehwag

“He plays with such ease that it feels like cricket is a very simple game. Even today, it felt like that - he was hitting boundaries so effortlessly." said Sehwag after Rohit's 46-ball 70 against SRH.

Former Indian cricketer, Virender Sehwag, was all praise for Rohit Sharma after his explosive batting display against Sunrisers Hyderabad led Mumbai Indians to a resounding seven-wicket victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday, April 23. Rohit's 70 (46) comprised eight fours and three sixes in MI's pursuit of the 144-run target put up by the hosts.

Sehwag highlighted how Rohit being in form spills over on the team's performance and the batters coming down the order.

“He’s been playing some incredible knocks lately. The last one was unbeaten, and if he’d stayed not out in this one too, it would’ve been even better - his average would’ve improved as well. But when Rohit Sharma hits form, we get to see a completely different side of him. The team’s position improves, and it gets easier for the batters to follow,” shared Sehwag while speaking on Cricbuzz.

The renowned commentator also shed light on how Rohit's style of play makes cricket look deceptively easy.

“He plays with such ease that it feels like cricket is a very simple game. Even today, it felt like that - he was hitting boundaries so effortlessly. But while it may look easy from the outside, it actually takes a lot of effort - choosing the right ball, selecting the right shot - he puts real thought into it, and that’s what makes him stand out. At one point, it looked like he could even get to 200,” added Sehwag.

After a lean patch in the first six innings for MI, Rohit has registered scores of 76 and 70 in the last two games. Prior to that, he tallied a meagre 82 in six innings

Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians are on a fine run of form, as after a disappointing start to IPL 2025, they have scripted a four-match winning streak. Their next clash is scheduled to be against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 27.
