Rohit Sharma has put an end to speculation surrounding his ODI retirement, making it clear that he has no plans to step away from the format anytime soon. Addressing the rumours, the Indian captain requested everyone to stop spreading such fake news around going forward.

Furthermore, he also made it amply clear that he had no future plans in place regarding retiring from international cricket. He will continue to play as usual like any other cricketer does. His statement during the recent press interaction was met with appreciation from veteran cricketer Dinesh Karthik, who applauded Rohit’s humour and clarity.

"It pretty much sums up Rohit Sharma as a person. Very humorous about it but at the same time sending the message across: 'Don't be in a hurry to ask for my retirement. I'll do it when I feel like it,'" Karthik said on Cricbuzz.

Furthermore, Karthik also spoke of Rohit’s leadership and Virat Kohli’s ability. Besides, he also shared his views on the rising Indian opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal.

"They just know what it takes to do well in big matches. The way they channel their thoughts and use that energy on the field is what makes them special. "He is a bonafide opener. When he gets his turn, he's going to do phenomenally well," Karthik concluded.

Rohit to work with Nayar to keep himself fit for ODI World Cup 2027

According to reports, Rohit Sharma is already planning to extend his career until the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. If everything goes as expected, the Indian skipper could bid farewell to international cricket after the event. By then, he will be 40 years old.

To ensure his endurance, Rohit is set to work with Abhishek Nayar, India’s assistant coach and a former teammate, shedding light on fitness, batting, and overall approach towards the game. Between 2025 and the 2027 World Cup, Team India are expected to play 27 ODIs, with more matches likely to be scheduled. Rohit aims to use these games as preparation for the grand tournament.

Meanwhile, uncertainty wanders around his Test future, especially after his poor performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. His IPL form will be closely monitored before selectors make a decision regarding his place in India’s squad for the England tour in June.

"Let the IPL be over first. Only an astrologer thinks so far ahead into the future," a source told Cricbuzz.
