Rohit Sharma, wife Ritika blessed with baby boy
Rohit may travel to Perth before the opening Test, but his inclusion in the Playing XI remains questionable.
Cricketer and captain of the Indian Test and ODI team Rohit Sharma and wife Ritika Sajdeh have been blessed with a baby boy on the night of Friday, November 15. This is the power couple's second child, as they already have a daughter named Samaira. If the stories are to be believed, Rohit and Ritika gave birth to their son in Mumbai, however, further details in the regard are awaited.
The news was made public by journalist Vikrant Gupta, who also congratulated the couple on microblogging and social media platform 'X' (formerly known as Twitter).
"Congratulations Ritika and Rohit Sharma as they have been blessed with a baby boy! The Captain hopefully should be on the flight to Perth in a few days, touch-and-go for the first Test there," Gupta wrote.
Rohit doubtful for Perth encounter
Rohit was supposed to travel with the Indian team for the impending Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, but the cricketer had already communicated his decision to the BCCI of staying back for the birth of his child. However, now that the purpose of Rohit's stay back home has been fulfilled, he may opt to travel, however, his inclusion in the first match of the series remains questionable.
The remaining 17 members of the Indian squad alongside the travelling reserves are already in Australia, and have started the warm-up match simulations ahead of the opening Test at the Optus Stadium, Perth starting November 22. In Rohit's absence, KL Rahul is likely to be tried as an opener alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, while Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, Sarfaraz Khan, and Ravindra Jadeja are going to be the preferred batters for the high-octane clash.
Meanwhile, head coach Gautam Gambhir had also confirmed during the pre-departure press conference that ace pacer and vice-captain Jasprit Bumrah will be the designated skipper in Rohit's unavailability, and rightly so.
