The 37th match of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) got underway as Rajasthan Royals (RR) went up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat first. The home side got off to a commanding start against the four-time IPL champions.
RR openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Jos Buttler made a solid start for the hosts, putting RR on a 50-run partnership in the fifth over. The openers led the way as Rajasthan Royals dominated the powerplay, reaching 64/0 at the end of the sixth over.
The young opener Jaiswal continued his form as he stormed his way to a quick half-century. The 21-year-old scored fifty from just 26 balls. Notably, this is his third half-century in the ongoing season.
Jaiswal scored his half-century after escaping a DRS call from the CSK captain. It occurred on the third ball of the fourth over. The batter attempted to sweep a ball short of a length in line but he missed it. There is a strong appeal for LBW, the umpire shook his head as Dhoni requested for a review. However, the screen showed that it was pitching outside leg, therefore Dhoni's review was determined wrong.
RR aim to bounce back against CSK as they play the game on the back of two consecutive losses. Meanwhile, the MS Dhoni-led side had been coming off three straight victories, which led them all the way to the top of the IPL 2023 points table. In addition, RR have the advantage in the game as they defeated CSK in their previous encounter of the season in Chennai.
Jaiswal played some fabulous shots, and one of his sixes off Ravindra Jadeja's delivery grabbed everyone's attention. Batting on 41*, Jaiswal attempted a reverse hit and powered the ball over the backward point as the ball went over the fence for a maximum.
