One of the popular franchises in recent times, MI Cape Town were quite active in the SA20 Auction which took place yesterday (Sep 19). The owners of the MI Cape Town, Reliance Group are known for bagging big names the auction, and they made a fantastic signing in the form of Rassie van der Dussen. The prolific right-hander has got all the shots in the book, and he was acquired for 3.9 million rands.
Veteran seamer Beuran Hendricks found a place in the MI Cape Town setup for 2.75 million rands and he is one of the established left-arm seamers in South Africa. The addition of George Linde, who can offer a lot in all the three departments for 3.9 million rands, strengthens the middle order which already boasted of match winners like Liam Livingstone and Sam Curran.
Ryan Rickelton who recently made his Test debut for South Africa, was snapped up for 1 million rand, and he is expected to do the wicketkeeping duties apart from opening the batting. Olly Stone and Odean Smith will complete the pace department while Duan Jansen who has been impressive in the ongoing CPL 2022 has been added to the mix for the MI Cape Town.
The franchise was unlucky to miss out on Tristan Stubbs who ended up as the most expensive player after an intense bidding in the auction for 9.2 million rands. MI Cape Town had signed up marquee names like Rashid Khan, Liam Livingstone, Sam Curran, Kagiso Rabada, and Dewald Brevis ahead of the auction and they have formed an excellent squad now. Rassie van der Dussen is expected to be named the captain of the side, although it is yet to be officially announced.
