Donovan Ferreira and Dewald Brevis made big impacts in their respective opening SA20 2023 matches to showcase their talent. Both South African batters also share a strong friendship on and off the field and represent Titans in domestic cricket.
After guiding Joburg Super Kings to a win in their opening SA20 match against Durban Super Giants on Wednesday (January 11), Donovan opened up on his strong bond with Brevis and said that they will be playing together for a long time.
Donovan revealed that his friendship with Brevis started when they started playing for Titans and added that they are building a strong friendship going forward.
"Myself and Dewald Brevis have become good friends ever since we started playing for the Titans. We have spent a lot of time both on and off the field. It's always nice building friendships because cricket is our job and ultimately there's a lot to life rather than just focusing on cricket all the time.
We have spent a lot of time at each other's houses and have also gone out for dinners. I just told him that it's important that we build a strong relationship going forward because hopefully, we will be playing together for a long time," Donovan said while speaking to Sportskeeda.
If you're winning games for your team then the selectors will be looking at you: Donovan Ferreira
Donovan, 24, smashed 82* off 40 balls and took the wicket of Quinton de Kock against Durban Super Giants to win the Player of the Match award. Brevis also stole the show in SA20's opening clash for MI Cape Town by scoring a match-winning knock of 70* off 41 balls against Paarl Royals.
Brevis already plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League while Donovan bagged a contract from Rajasthan Royals during the IPL 2023 auction on December 23, 2022. Both are likely to make international debuts for the Proteas in the upcoming months and Donovan feels that the selectors will notice them if they keep winning games for their teams.
"That's what myself and Dewald have been speaking that all we can focus on is just focusing on our performances and putting the runs on the board. Because if you're winning games for your team then the selectors will be looking at you," Donovan added.
