Sarfaraz Khan pays tribute to Sidhu Moosewala after scintillating Ranji Trophy century
Mumbai posted 293 runs on board after the first innings against Delhi.
Despite being very consistent in domestic cricket, Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan failed to make it to the Indian team for the first two Test matches of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He, however, didn’t break down and smashed a terrific century in the ongoing Ranji Trophy match against Delhi.
Soon after reaching the three-figure mark, the 25-year-old was seen celebrating with rage and also paid a tribute to late singer Sidhu Moosewala by imitating his signature gesture of doing a thigh-five and pointing a finger towards the sky.
The cricketer has celebrated like this a lot of times in his career. It is slowly and steadily becoming his signature move after every crucial century he is scoring. When he was previously asked about the reason behind it, the cricketer narrated the story and explained the reason behind it.
“This was for Sidhu Moosewala. I love his songs and mostly me and Hardik Tamore (stumper) listen to his songs. I did a similar kind of celebration during an earlier match also (in his memory), but then, Hotstar didn't show it. I had decided once I score another hundred, I would repeat the celebration,” the young cricketer said.
Sarfaraz helped Mumbai recover from 62/3
Coming to bat at 62 for the loss of three wickets, Mumbai needed something special from Sarfaraz and he delivered. The youngster scored 125 off 165 deliveries and took the team to 293 runs in the first innings. Delhi bowlers were splendid on the first day as Pranshu Vijayran clinched four wickets while Harshit Rana and Yogesh Sharma picked up two wickets each.
Meanwhile, opener Prithvi Shaw gave Mumbai a good start as he scored 40 off just 35 deliveries. Veteran Ajinkya Rahane failed to deliver as he was dismissed for just two runs. Shams Mulani’s 39 off 103 deliveries later proved to be very crucial but yet Mumbai looked a few runs short after the end of their first innings in the match.
