Shipston Cricket Club receive financial support from Darren Gough

The Shipston on Stour Cricket Club recently received a financial boost, all thanks to former England cricketer Darren Gough. The club recently became a beneficiary of the £75,000 Gigaclear Rural Sports Club Fund, supported by Gough. 

The fund’s aim is to provide support to rural sports teams in the 26 counties covered by Gigaclear's full fibre network. The equipment provided will go towards the development of the youth teams, giving them improved resources to play with. 

The club’s secretary, Dave Murphy, came forward and expressed the club’s gratitude towards the funding and the implications they will be making with the new, improved resources. 

"We’re really grateful to Gigaclear for its support of grassroots rural sport clubs through its fund. The removable netting will help save the loss of cricket balls into the adjacent field on matchdays and will can also be adapted into training equipment as a fielding and batting net to help us coach our youngsters. Developing youngsters from our local area is vital for the survival and future of our club,” Murphy was quoted as saying by the Cotswold Journal.

Furthermore, the fund’s ambassador, Darren Gough, talked about how ever since launching the fund, they have moved from their strengths to giving support where it is needed the most.  

"Since launching the fund, it has gone from strength to strength, providing valuable support where it is needed most. It’s great to see so much kit and equipment being sent out to rural sports clubs such as Shipston on Stour Cricket Club and I wish them every success in the coming season, I believe the fund is helping make a difference to players now and to the rural sports teams of the future,” Gough said. 

It is interesting to note that more than 2,500 houses and businesses have full access to Gigaclear’s full fibre network, which offers high internet speeds.
