Shubman Gill’s form with the bat was a major talking point in the ongoing series between West Indies and India. The youngster couldn’t really perform in the Test matches, and his performance didn’t improve much in the first two ODIs of the series. Thus, ahead of the ODI World Cup, there was some form of tension, especially with Ishan Kishan on song at the moment.

Ahead of the final ODI of the series, Gill addressed the issue and stated that he is aware of a dip in form at the moment. He mentioned being unsatisfied at the moment and added saying that it's about mental resilience and about converting starts into a big total.

“Not very satisfied with how things have gone on this tour for me. But I have been batting well. It's about the mental resilience and about converting starts into a big one,” Gill told broadcasters ahead of the third ODI in Trinidad.

Meanwhile, soon after addressing his problems, Gill managed to return back to form. Along with Ishan Kishan, the cricketer gave a perfect start to India in the third match as their partnership of 143 runs set the tone of the match. The southpaw managed to hit 77 runs off 64 deliveries while Gill too hit a half-century and will now aim to convert it into a three-figure mark (at the time of writing the piece).

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s absence raise further questions

In order to try every player ahead of the ODI World Cup, Indian team management decided to rest Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the last two matches of the series. This has raised further questions as India’s top order already looked settled. Both Rohit and Virat are guaranteed starters in the tournament and thus, experimenting with something new has faced a lot of criticism.

Nevertheless, India managed to get a perfect start in the middle, and if they eventually win the series, the talks are expected to slow down, but if it goes otherwise, this may end up being the biggest talking point going into the tournament.
