Shubman Gill reveals reason behind his jersey number 77

Shubman Gill's remarkable form and consistent record-breaking performances have firmly secured his place as the opener for the Indian cricket team. He presently holds the prestigious No. 2 spot among ODI batsmen. Recently, he unveiled the rationale behind his choice of jersey number 77 over his customary lucky 7. 

“My jersey number is 77 because when I played the under-19 World Cup, I wanted to get the jersey number 7. As it wasn’t available at that moment, I took two 7’s,” Gill said as quoted by ESPN Cricinfo.

Shubman Gill revealed his current favourite cricketer and idol while growing up

When queried about his current favorite cricketer, Shubman promptly declared, "Virat Bhai." Gill and Virat Kohli have consistently been the driving force behind crafting crucial partnerships in the middle. His aggressive strokeplay complements Virat's anchoring prowess. In response to the Punjab batter's admiration, Kohli had previously remarked, "He is a lovely kid, and I am eager to contribute to his growth."

When asked about his cricketing idol during his formative years, the 24-year-old fondly mentioned the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. Sachin had showered accolades on Gill following his outstanding performance in the recent IPL. Taking to Twitter, the Little Master expressed his deep admiration, stating that he was highly impressed by Gill's insatiable appetite for runs.
