Sitting in my position, I cannot use words like struggle and sacrifice: Virat Kohli
The former India captain said that he is just grateful for the position he is currently in.
Virat Kohli is arguably one of the finest batters India has ever produced. The right-handed batter is currently enjoying a fruitful campaign with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2024, emerging as the leading run-scorer in the tournament despite the team's hardships.
The ace India batter recently said that when reflecting on his journey from the past to the present, he refrains from using words like "struggle" and "sacrifice." The 35-year-old emphasized that he is simply pursuing what he loves.
"Honestly, sitting in my position, I cannot use words like struggle and sacrifice. For me, there has been no struggle and no sacrifice. I am doing what I love," Virat said to host Gaurav Kapoor during a talk show.
Elaborating his point, Kohli said that someone who can't afford two square meals a day is the one truly facing a struggle. He emphasized that while hard work can be glorified as a struggle, it's essential to provide for one's family.

"Struggle uski hoti hai jisko do waqt ki roti nahi milti hai (The one who doesn't get two square meals in a day, he's the one who's struggling). Aap apne hard work ko struggle bol ke usko glorify kar sakte ho, uspe cherry on top laga sakte ho, aapko koi nahi bol raha hai gym mein jaane ke liye, but you have to feed your family. (You can glorify your hard work by calling it a struggle, you can put a cherry on top, no one is asking you to go the gym, but you have to feed your family)," he added.
The former India captain went on to say that he is just grateful for the position he is currently in. He acknowledged that when considering the genuine challenges people encounter in life, his own concerns pale in comparison.
"I am just grateful, actually, I am in a privileged position as I am getting to do what I have always loved to do. I play a sport, which is my profession. If you really think about the real problems that people face in life, it's not done. You can't compare getting out in a Test series to someone who doesn't have a roof in his house," he said further.
