'Some dislocation but not a fracture' - Rohit Sharma gives update on thumb injury
Indian captain smashed 51* off 28 balls while playing in the ninth position against Bangladesh in the second ODI.
India suffered an embarrassing five-run defeat against Bangladesh in the second ODI while chasing a 272-run target at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium in Mirpur on Wednesday (December 7). Bangladesh managed to score a challenging 271/7 total while batting first with Mehidy Hasan Miraz smashing his maiden ODI ton. Indian batters struggled as Bangladeshi bowlers survived with a narrow five-run win in a thrilling encounter.
For India, Shreyas Iyer scored the highest 82 runs and Axar Patel contributed 56 runs off 56 balls. But it was Rohit Sharma's 51* cameo that dragged India closer to the target. Indian captain injured his thumb while fielding in slips in the first innings' second over and then left the field for a scan. He missed the remainder of Bangladesh's innings but returned to the dressing room after his scan.

In the post-match conference, Rohit informed that his thumb is not in great condition but he was able to bat because there was no fracture. As the visitors now have lost the three-match series, the Indian captain is expected to sit out the third game scheduled on December 10 and return fresh for the Test series starting from December 14.
"Honestly, the thumb is not too great. Some dislocation on the finger, but not a fracture, which is why I could come and bat. I think when you lose a game, there are positives and negatives. From 70 for 6 to allowing them to 270-odd was not a great effort from the bowlers," Rohit Sharma said after the match.
Earlier, India, while chasing a challenging total, started with Virat Kohli opening the innings in place of Rohit. As Indian batting unit collapsed, Rohit walked in to bat at No. 9 when India were struggling at 207/7 towards the end of the 43rd over. Rohit smashed quick unbeaten 51 runs off just 28 balls, including one six and two fours in the last over, dragging India closer to a win. However, he failed to hit a six on the innings' last delivery.
