Sri Lanka Women have replaced pacer Kawya Kavindi by naming the left-arm spinner Inoka Ranaweera in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad. Ranaweera has hit the jackpot as the team was looking for a spinner to assist their prospects in spin-friendly pitches of United Arab Emirates (UAE). She was excluded from the Asia Cup squad and missed the Ireland tour.

The 38-year-old brings a wealth of experience for the team having played 82 T20Is and claiming 91 wickets at an economy rate of 5.86. With Kavindi missing out, the team is left with only three pace options in the form of, Udeshika Prabodhani, Achini Kulasuriya, and Ama Kanchana. On the other hand, Ranaweera, Inoshi Priyadharshani, Sugandika Kumari, and Kavisha Dilhari comprise the spinning options.

Sri Lanka Women will take immense heart from their Asia Cup 2024 victory and the team’s batting looks rock solid ahead of the global event. Chamari Athapaththu leads the batting troop with the likes of Harshitha Samarawickrama and Vishmi Gunaratne also maintaining good form.

Sri Lanka are placed in Group A for the league stage sharing the group with giants Pakistan, Australia, New Zealand, and India. The tournament will commence on October 3 with Bangladesh taking on Scotland. Sri Lanka will play their first game against Australia on October 5.
