Sri Lanka’s batting combination is top-notch, they are high on confidence: Asghar Afghan
"Sri Lanka have played fantastic cricket and have shown that they are a champion team,” said Afghan.
It has been a successful campaign for Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup with them winning crunch moments to prevail against Afghanistan and India in the Super 4 stage. The victories have nearly ensured their qualification for the Finals. Ahead of the game between Pakistan and Afghanistan, the former Afghan captain Asghar Afghan has hailed the batting performances of the rampant Sri Lanka team.
Asghar said that the young Sri Lankan team found confidence after winning against Afghanistan and then continued that momentum to chase 174 against India. Even though India produced a fightback, the Dasun Shanaka-led side managed to win the game on the back of proficient partnerships.
“Sri Lanka successfully chasing against Afghanistan at Sharjah was difficult, and after gaining the confidence, they did very well against India as well. No doubt, Sri Lanka have played fantastic cricket and have shown that they are a champion team,” said Afghan via 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' on CricTracker.
What has went in favour for Sri Lanka?
Sri Lanka started their Asia Cup 2022 campaign with a loss against Afghanistan. However, they reached the Super 4 by winning against Afghanistan. In both Super 4 games, openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis have managed to provide a thunderous start to the team in the powerplay overs. In the game against India, the team got a stable platform with 57 runs in six overs, with both batters at their full flow.
Although they faced hiccups in the middle with wickets in quick succession, the duo of Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Shanaka continued their rich vein of form to take the team home against the able bowling attack of India. With a foot and a half in the Finals, Sri Lanka will lock horns with Pakistan on Friday (September 9) in their Iast fixture of the Super 4 stage in Dubai.
