Senior pacer Stuart Broad, Matthew Potts and Dan Lawrence have been recalled into the England squad for the two-match Test series against the reigning WTC champions New Zealand which is scheduled to be played in February 2023.

The English Test team will be led by star all-rounder Ben Stokes and veteran pacer James Anderson as well as the modern-day Test great Joe Root are also a part of the upcoming series.

Root will be back for national duties after his commitment with the Dubai Capitals who have roped him in for the inaugural edition of the ILT20 league which is scheduled to be played in January-February 2023.

Apart from Root, other players including the likes of Will Jacks, Olly Stone, Ben Duckett and Harry Brook who would be part of the ODI squad in South Africa and contracted in the SA20 have also made themselves available for selection.

England tour of New Zealand 2022-23

Prior to the Test series, England are scheduled to play two-day warm-up matches against New Zealand XI from February 8 to 11 at Hamilton’s Seddon Park. The opening Test will be played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui from February 16. This Test match will be played under lights. The second and final game will be contested at the Basin Reserve in Wellington on the 24th.

New Zealand would be hoping to make the most of their home advantage. England on the other hand have transformed into a formidable Test side ever since Brendon McCullum and  Ben Stokes have been at the helm of affairs in the Three Lions’ red-ball setup.

England have won nine out of their last 10 matches in the longest format. While many critics had argued that the ‘Bazball’ strategy would be exposed outside their home conditions, England proved them wrong by registering a convincing 3-0 series win on Pakistan soil recently.

England Test squad: Ben Stokes (captain), James Anderson, Stuart Broad, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ben Foakes, Will Jacks, Dan Lawrence, Jack Leach, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Ollie Robinson, Joe Root, Olly Stone
