T20 Blast: Hampshire skipper James Vince surpasses Luke Wright to become highest run-scorer

Hampshire captain James Vince became the T20 Blast's all-time leading run-scorer during the match against Surrey at the Ageas Bowl on Wednesday, May 31. The 32-year-old became the competition's second player to score 5,000 runs, quickly passing Luke Wright's tally of 5,026. Notably, Surrey defeated Hampshire by six wickets despite Vince's historic knock.

Speaking of the career stats, James Vince has amassed 5,054 T20 Blast runs have come in 163 innings at an average of 35.34, including four centuries and 35 fifties. Kent's Joe Denly (4,773), Lancashire's Steven Croft (4,553), and Notts' Alex Hales (4,489) make out the top five run scorers in the T20 Blast's history. 

Now, regarding the match, Surrey skipper Chris Jordan won the toss and invited Hampshire to bat first. Vince smashed an unbeaten 88 off 56 deliveries, including eight boundaries and three maximums, and helped Hampshire to post 156/4 in 20 overs. He also stitched an 83-run partnership with Tom Prest (33) for the second wicket. For Surrey, Sean Abbott, Gus Atkinson, Sam Curran, and Sunil Narine picked up one wicket each.

Jordan and Co. were brilliant during the chase, as they chased down the target in 18.5 overs. Will Jacks and Laurie Evans gave a steady start for Surrey. However, Chris Wood provided a massive breakthrough for Hampshire, dismissing Evans.

Will Jacks' batting heroics overshadows James Vince's knock as Surrey beat Hampshire

At one stage, Surrey required 56 from the final 36 balls, Will Jacks led the charge for his side and hammered three successive sixes in a crucial 15th over bowled by Mason Crane. The 24-year-old smashed an unbeaten 57-ball 83 runs, including two fours and eight sixes, and guided Surrey to clinch victory. Meanwhile, Liam Dawson picked up two wickets while Wood and Crane grabbed one each for Hampshire. 

In another T20 Blast encounter, Glamorgan defeated Middlesex by 29 runs on Wednesday, at the Merchant Taylors' School Ground. Glamorgan scored a mammoth 238 runs in 20 overs after winning the toss and batting first, thanks to Chris Cooke's (113* off 41) maiden century. During the chase, Middlesex were restricted to 209 in 20 overs despite openers, Stephen Eskinazi (59 off 33) and Joe Cracknell (77 off 42) scoring half-centuries.
