T20 World Cup 2022: ICC names top 5 matches of tournament so far, IND vs PAK tops list

The T20 World Cup 2022 has witnessed some really thrilling games, be it the first-round fixtures, or the Super 12 stage. Though the Australian weather conditions have played a spoilsport, there has not been any moment in the match that has not intrigued the fans. While there were a few games where the tables turned at the last moment, there were also a few cut-throat competitions.

The tournament has seen many upsets too. Namibia and Scotland, who had been a part of the Super 12 in the previous edition of the tournament, failed to make it to the second round this year, whereas Ireland and Zimbabwe stunned everyone in the first-round games to seal a berth in the second round of the tournament.

The Super 12 stage has been going on for a week now, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) picked the top five games of the tournament so far, rating the thrilling India vs Pakistan fixture on top of their list. It was one of the rare fixtures that kept the fans, across the globe, on the edge of their seats, as India bagged a victory off the final delivery of the final over while chasing a score of 16 runs.

The second game in ICC’s list was the Pakistan vs Zimbabwe fixture, which resulted in an upset for the Babar Azam-led side as they lost their second consecutive game, again on the final ball of the game. Zimbabwe sealed a brilliant win over the Men in Green and registered their first victory of the T20 World Cup Super 12.

The remaining three games in the list are from the first-round fixtures. The third-ranked match is the Scotland vs Ireland game that took place at the Bellerive Oval. Ireland bounced back from 61/4 to 176/5, courtesy of Curtis Campher’s unbeaten 72-run knock. Ireland chases down their highest successful target in T20I history and clinched a brilliant win.

Fourth on the list is the UAE vs Netherlands fixture, the game from the opening day of the T20 World Cup 2022. The game was full of ups and downs as both teams put up a great fight. UAE could post only 111 runs on board while batting first, but their bowlers did a brilliant job and wreaked havoc during the second innings. But the Netherlands batters held their nerves and finished off the chase with just a ball to spare.

ICC ranked the UAE vs Namibia game fifth in the list, which was the final game of Group A. It was an interesting game as Namibia had to win it to qualify further, and the Netherlands’ hopes were hanging on a thin thread because they were completely dependent upon ’AE's win, who had already been disqualified from the second round. UAE successfully defended their total and clinched a final-over win.
