T20 World Cup 2022: Josh Inglis rushed to hospital after freak golf accident
Josh Inglis was taken to the hospital after a golf club snapped in his hand.
The Australian team suffered a huge injury scare ahead of their titular Super 12 clash against Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand after Josh Inglis was at the end of a freak accident on Wednesday. Inglis, who accompanied his teammates for a round of golf at New South Wales Golf Club in La Perouse, was rushed to the hospital after the freak accident.
Josh Inglis, who is the backup to veteran wicketkeeper-batter Matthew Wade, was playing golf with his compatriots in New South Wales when a golf club snapped in half while he was trying to hit the ball. Inglis injured his hand in the process and was rushed to the nearest hospital after losing a considerable amount of blood.
The 27-year-old was in a lot of discomfort, with the extent of his injury yet to be confirmed by the board or the hospital. His condition will be assessed by the medical professionals before revealing the severity of the injury, according to a team spokesperson.
It is worth noting that Inglis is the only wicketkeeping option for the defending champions in their squad for the T20 World Cup apart from Matthew Wade. With the Aussies using just 15 players for the ICC event, Inglis' injury, if severe, could be a huge blow for the Men in Yellow as they don't have any reserves for the ongoing tournament.
Tim David likely to replace Steve Smith in the Australian team for NZ clash
Wade's place in the eleven was never in doubt, unlike Steve Smith, who is likely to be sacrificed for the big-hitting Tim David in the Australian team for the clash against New Zealand. Former New Zealand cricketer Ross Taylor named David as one of the most exciting players to watch in the tournament.
"He has had some useful cameos in his brief appearances for Australia so far and he obviously has a lot of power. He seems to be able to hit boundaries with ease. I think Australia fans are going to really love him and cricket fans all around the world are going to enjoy watching him. He knows those pitches and conditions and I think he could be set for a big month,” Taylor said to Fox Sports.
