T20 World Cup 2022: Sourav Ganguly names his semi-finalists of the tournament

One of the finest captains to lead the Indian national team, and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly spoke about the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 and revealed his top four, that is the semi-finalists, of the tournament. Ganguly has served the game for a very long period of time, on and off the field and his association with cricket will never be broken.

As the Indian side gears up for the campaign opener against arch-rivals Pakistan, Ganguly backed Rohit Sharma and Co. to do well in the game, and throughout the entire tournament. The previous edition of the World Cup, in 2021, did not go as planned for India under Virat Kohli’s captaincy, and the Men in Blue will now be looking to make amends.

While speaking of India’s disappointing exit from last year’s marquee event, Ganguly emphasized focusing on the present and not thinking much about the past. The tournament has witnessed many upsets over the years, and while there are many teams who are ‘favorites’ in the tournament, the first game of the Super 12 proved that anything could happen on the big stage, as New Zealand defeated defending champions Australia by 89 runs.

“What happened before, there is no point discussing that. India will be one of the favorites to win the tournament. In World Cup, the fight is completely different. Those teams who will play well in those two-three weeks will make the mark. Look, it's hard to say before but we have a good side. Big hitters are there. In the T20 format, form is very crucial in those hours,” Ganguly told India Today.

South Africa is a good bowling side: Ganguly

After fighting hard in the First-Round of the tournament, four teams namely Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe, and the Netherlands made their way into the Super 12 stage. Now, 12 teams will be fighting against all odds, with just one aim- to lift the coveted cup. And amid all the excitement, Ganguly named the four teams that he believes will make it to the semi-finals.

“I will choose India, South Africa, Australia, and England. South Africa is a good bowling side and that will be a factor in Australia,” he concluded.
