Bangladesh (BAN) faced off against Netherlands (NED) in Match 27 of the T20 World Cup 2024, at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown, on June 13. Netherlands won the toss and chose to bowl first. Aryan Dutt made an early inroad for the Dutch by dismissing Najmul Shanto and Litton Das. Shakib Al Hasan and Tanzid Hasan then built a crucial partnership of 48 runs for the third wicket.

Tanzid was eventually out after scoring 35 off 26 balls, while Shakib continued to toil with Mahmudullah joining him. After the departure of Towhid Hridoy, the pair combined for a 41-run stand, guiding Bangladesh to a competitive total. Mahmudullah scored 25 off 21 before getting out, while Shakib remained unbeaten on 64 off 46. Jaker Ali also contributed a quick 14 runs off seven deliveries, helping the Tigers reach a total of 159 for 5.

During their chase, the Netherlands' openers, Micheal Levitt and Max ODowd, had a shaky start. They scored 18 and 12 runs respectively, with the team managing just 36 runs in the powerplay. Vikramjit Singh and Sybrand Engelbrecht then put together a 37-run partnership before Vikramjit was dismissed for 26 off 16 balls. Sybrand continued to score well, supported by captain Scott Edwards, as they added 42 runs between them.

Both Sybrand and Edwards departed after scoring 33 and 25, respectively. Rishad Hossain was brought in by Bangladesh and made crucial breakthroughs by dismissing Bas de Leede and Logan van Beek. With 36 runs needed off 12 deliveries, the Netherlands' lower-order batters struggled. Bangladesh managed to tackle them effectively and secured a 25-run victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 encounter. This win kept Bangladesh's hopes alive for the Super 8 stage.

What does NED need to do to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 round?

The first and foremost task at Netherlands hand is to win the remaining game with a comprehensive margin. They will have to hope Bangladesh lose to Nepal with a bigger margin in their next game. As South Africa are already qualified, Netherlands have a negative Net Run Rate (NRR) of 0.408 and the journey from there is an arduous one. With Sri Lanka already eliminated from the tournament, Netherlands have an opportunity to leverage their poor form and hope for a miracle from Nepal against Bangladesh.
