Uganda were bowled out for 39, losing by 134 runs against the hosts Windies.
The match no. 18 of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 was a pretty one-sided affair, as the hosts West Indies crushed Uganda by 134 runs at the Providence Stadium, Guyana. On Sunday, June 09, the Windies batted first and on a challenging surface went on to put up a decent score of 173/5 after 20 overs. The first innings total was guided by Johnson Charles (44 off 42), Nicholas Pooran (22 off 17), Rovman Powell (23 off 18), Sherfane Rutherford (22 off 16), and Andre Russell (30 off 17).
As for Uganda, skipper Brian Masaba picked up a couple of wickets including the one of the opposition counterpart Powell. Alpesh Ramjani, Cosmas Kyewuta and Dinesh Nakrani also scalped one each. After a decent job by the Ugandan bowlers, it was the time for their batters to step, which eventually couldn't happen, as what followed later was a nightmare.
On just the second ball of the chase, Uganda lost the opener Roger Mukasa and in the very next over, his partner Simon Ssesazi too followed suit. In no matter of time, they were tittering at 22/5 at the end of the powerplay. In the seventh over, two more men made their way back, as a loss became inevitable, and the only matter of question was how much will the chase elongate. An unbeaten 13 off 20 balls from Juma Miyagi's blade was the only double-digit contribution from the Ugandans, as they were bundled out rapidly for 39 in 12 overs.
Akeal Hosein was the wrecker-in-chief to grant the Windies a victory in the form of a five-wicket haul, conceding a miserly 11 runs in his entire spell. Alzarri Joseph also chipped in with two wickets, while Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, and Andre Russell also added a wicket to their basket. At the end, the Caribbeans clinched a thumping win of 134-run margin, which stands as their highest against any opposition in 20-over format.

Akeal Hosein, Player of the Match:
I think I needed this. In the nets and in the previous series, I felt like the ball was coming out of my hand good. I think I was doing everything right in the nets but I wasn't just getting the rewards. Just have to stay calm and it'll be my turn. (Favourite wicket) I think I'll go with the regular finger spinner one, that was my favourite. It's a lot of hard work (to perform at this level), especially when you get success. The way the game is moving, guys are going to study you and come up with different plans. So you always have to stay one step ahead of them every time. (Bowling in the powerplay) For me, it's about trying to react to what the surface is doing and try to plan out your over. Even though you are getting the ball to move both ways, if you don't plan out your over, then you can end up in a mess. (Bowling four on the trot) I don't mind, I am happy to bowl wherever the team needs me.
Rovman Powell: We talk about improving. We were a little flat in the first game. We had some rust in the first game. We were 60 percent in the first game. Now, we are operating at 70-80 percent. Credit to Akeal, no wonder why he is the number 3 ranked bowler in this format. He has done the same against top sides as well. He bowled wicket to wicket and did his job. Cricket isn't that easy here and teams need to play well. The Guyanese crowd have been superb.
Brian Masaba: Tough day for us. We were outplayed in both departments. We must take lessons. We need to understand what can we do better as a batting unit. There were some positives in the bowling department. The way we bowled at the death. Hopefully, we can build on it. It is a huge challenge. If we have to get better, we need to play more games against such opponents. Good lessons to carry back home. We love having the fans. They have supported us through thick and thin.
