Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma have played a good chunk of cricket together, and both were part of the Indian team that won the maiden T20 World Cup in 2007. After 17 years down the line, the duo is sharing the dressing room with different designations to their name. While Rohit leads the side, Gambhir is named Head Coach of the team.

Their first assignment together was a forgettable one as the team got whitewashed by Sri Lanka in the ODI series. However, both will aim to turn the tables in the ongoing Test series against Bangladesh. Speaking of his relationship with the Hitman, the veteran quipped the camaraderie to be ‘fabulous’. He also admitted to being open to any disagreement with time.

“We've had several conversations. I believe that the team ultimately belongs to the captain because he leads on the field. My role, along with the support staff, is to assist the captain in every way possible. Rohit's leadership and respect in the dressing room are crucial,” said Gambhir as quoted by NDTV Sports.

“So, he's a great guy and has got a lot of respect in that dressing room, and that is the first and foremost quality of a leader. I think my relationship with him when we were playing together was fabulous. Even then he was a great human being and hopefully, I think it continues that way as well,” he added.

India have started home campaign against Bangladesh in Chennai

Meanwhile, Bangladesh assignment comes as a great opportunity for the Indian Team to rake up their points in the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. But the visitors are in great form as they defeated Pakistan in their backyard by 2-0. With the crucial Border Gavaskar Trophy due in November, Rohit has asserted that there was no room for complacency within the team. India are currently in the midst of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai.
