Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced plans to construct a second international cricket stadium in Hyderabad. This move aims to boost the state's sporting infrastructure and promote cricket at the highest level.

Hyderabad, already home to the iconic Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, has long been a cricketing hub in India. The proposed new stadium comes as part of the Telangana government's broader initiative to enhance sports facilities and encourage athletic talent across the state.

CM Reddy, while addressing the state Assembly today, revealed that initial discussions have taken place with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the construction of the new stadium.

The proposed site for this ambitious project is Begarikancha, located on the outskirts of Hyderabad, where the foundation for the Young India Skills University was recently laid.

The government has expressed its willingness to provide land for the stadium, contingent on the BCCI's agreement to build a facility that meets international standards. Along with this, the chief minister opened up about several other sports-related initiatives.

A new sports policy is in the works, set to be revealed during the next Assembly session. The government is also examining Haryana's sports policy as a potential model. To prove its commitment to sports development, the state has allocated INR 321 crore for sports in the 2024-25 budget.

Furthermore, Group-I jobs will be provided to Nikhat Zareen and Siraj, with the latter receiving a special exemption due to his educational qualifications.
