Jasprit Bumrah is undoubtedly the spearhead of India’s bowling attack. The 29-year-old, despite being an integral part of the Indian team, has continuously suffered from injuries that have rendered him on the sidelines. Bumrah sustained a back injury in July 2022, which has ruled him out of international cricket.

Talking about the same, legendary Pakistan pacer, Shoaib Akhtar came forward to give his take on Bumrah’s situation. He touched upon various topics; he talked about Bumrah’s action and how it is not sustainable in the long run.

"He has this front-on action, and when he loads up before delivering the bowl, he puts a lot of pressure on his spinal cord. We used to be side-on, and bowlers like me could take help from our hips and thighs and from the left hand as well, and that used to compensate (for the pressure on the back). Unfortunately, Jasprit doesn’t have that leverage," Akhtar said, speaking to Sports Tak.

"A front-on action has no compensation, and with that action, when the back gives in, you can’t escape it irrespective of how much you try. The amount of cricket he has played will break down. He was a regular in all three formats when he was playing IPL. His action is not that sustainable," he added.

I feel India could have managed him a bit better: Akhtar on Bumrah

Akhtar also talked about how the Indian team managed the star pacer. The 47-year-old opined that India could have done better in managing Bumrah. Stating that a lesser number of matches could help him prolong his career.

"It’s unfortunate, I feel India could have managed him a bit better. And he himself should have been more aware of which format he should play and which he should skip. If I have been in the management, I would have told him to play only three ODIs out of five and play only the crucial one. More training and fewer matches will prolong his career. He needs a lot of muscle in his back," Akhtar said.
