Temba Bavuma's South Africa were denied a deserved victory against Zimbabwe in Hobart after their old adversary rain interfered to have the final say in the match. Zimbabwe were saved by the rain gods as they were under the pump from their African opponents for much of the game. The match was abandoned eventually and both teams were awarded a point each. Former Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar reckoned that the lost point could come back to haunt the Proteas later in the tournament.

South Africa are grouped together with two mighty Asian sides India and Pakistan, along with potential banana skins in the form of Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and Zimbabwe. While India are one of the favorites to progress from the group, South Africa's chances might get hampered after losing out on a vital point against Zimbabwe from a winning position.

Former Bangladeshi skipper Habibul Bashar feels that the lost point could hurt the South African side later in the tournament. Bashar reckoned that it is a tough group, with each side fighting for a semi-final spot, and with the presence of India and Pakistan in the same group, every point becomes crucial.

"South Africa wanted to finish the game before the rain came and it is very unfortunate that they have to go back from here with just a point. It is a tough group. I don't know the one point, this might be too early to say, but this one point can come back to haunt them in this tight group," Bashar said on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker'.

It is worth noting that South Africa were in a commanding position after restricting Zimbabwe to a par total in their nine overs in a rain-curtailed affair. The Proteas were on the brink of victory, needing just 13 runs off the remaining 12 deliveries before rain interfered to deny them a merited victory in the contest.
