There hasn’t been any other captain in India who has won as many trophies as MS Dhoni: Virender Sehwag
Dhoni will play his 11th IPL Final against GT, the most by any player in the history of the competition.
Former India batter Virender Sehwag was all praise for legendary Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni for his decade-long illustrious career. During his stint as the skipper of the national team, and CSK in the IPL, Dhoni has attained glory on numerous occasions, winning almost every title throughout his professional career.
On Monday, May 29, the 41-year-old will take the field against Gujarat Titans, for what marks his 11th appearance in a final of the IPL. Being regarded as arguably the most decorated captain in the sport, former cricketer and teammate Sehwag lavished massive praise on Dhoni and added that he is here to win the trophies ahead of the IPL 2023 final.
“MS Dhoni was born to win trophies. There hasn’t been any other captain in India who has won as many trophies. T20-over world cup 50-over world cup, test championship, IPL. He’s here to win trophies," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.
He was born to lead: Manoj Tiwary
Former batter Manoj Tiwary, who was also part of the discussion on Cricbuzz, highlighted that the skipper understands how to take youngsters under his wing, as a mentor. He further added that Dhoni does not intend to complicate things with the setup and has a solid understanding on how to help his team progress in the lucrative T20 event.
“He has made a huge impact. In IPL, the way he’s been mentoring besides captaincy. He was born to lead. You speak to him on any subject, he will a response. He has a deep understanding of the game too. If the bowling is weak, he knows how to improve it. We compare teams, said CSK have an inexperienced bowling line-up but barring a couple, the rest have done well in domestic and junior cricket,” Tiwary highlighted
“The inexperience was visible during the early matches but with the same attack look what he has done. He always wants to keep things simple. He reads the situation well. God has been a little more generous to him than others. He must have done something good in previous life for which he’s reaping rewards now,” he added.
