India batter Shubman Gill has defended his senior and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant by saying that the latter has nothing to do with model and actress Urvashi Rautela. A few months ago, Urvashi had talked about a mysterious person by calling him ‘Mr. RP’ during an interview with Bollywood Hungama.

In that interview, Urvashi had mentioned that ‘Mr.RP’ was so desperate to meet her at an event in New Delhi that there were 16-17 missed calls from him. The controversial interview was then followed by a social media spat between the actress and Rishabh Pant as they took indirect digs at each other.

Rishabh Pant does not even care about it: Shubman Gill

"There is nothing from Rishabh Pant's side. He doesn't get distracted by her activities. Actually, Urvashi wants someone to tease her. He does not even care about it," said Gill while speaking to Sonam Bajwa on a chat show 'Dil Diyan Gallan'.

Both Rishabh and Shubman are currently in New Zealand for the ongoing T20I series. The first match at Wellington was forced to be abandoned due to rain and the focus shifts to the all-important second game that will be played at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Sunday, November 20.

Both teams will be looking to draw first blood and make a statement as they look forward to rebuilding after crashing out in the semis of the recently-concluded T20 World Cup in Australia.

Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill would be looking to prove a point in this series. Gill, who has been in and out of the national team needs to showcase consistency in order to be on the selectors’ radar and with the senior players rested for this tour, this is a perfect opportunity for him to try and audition for his place in the T20I side.

Pant, on the other hand, also needs to get some quick runs under his belt in this series. The southpaw had a miserable T20 World Cup campaign where he got out cheaply in the Super 12 fixture against Zimbabwe and the semis against England.

With Sanju Samson also competing for the limited-overs wicketkeeper’s spot, Pant will now need to bring his A-game forward.
