Another final-day thriller in the ongoing Ashes 2023 saw Australia clinching a magnificent victory over England and taking a 2-0 lead in the series. After winning the first Test at Edgbaston, Australia continued their winning momentum by winning the second Test at Lord’s by 43 runs. Skipper Ben Stokes’ brilliant century went in vain as the visitors clinched a win in the second session of the day.

Amid a dramatic Day 5 at Lord’s, an incident that caught attention off the field was Usman Khawaja being involved in a heated argument with one of the MCC members. When the team members were on their way back to the dressing room after the first session, for Lunch, an MCC member made a comment on Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal, which led to an argument.

The MCC member also stopped David Warner, but a security person pulled the two players off to put an end to heated arguments. While the MCC released a statement later clarifying the entire situation, Khawaja opened up on the matter while speaking to Channel Nine after the conclusion of the game, calling the incident disappointing and disrespectful.

“It was really disappointing. Lord's is one of my favorite places to come. There's always respect shown at Lord's, particularly in the Members Pavilion in the Long Room, but there wasn't today. It was very disappointing. If anyone asked me where the best place is to play I always say Lord's,” Khawaja said.

Some of the stuff that was coming out of the members' mouths is really disappointing: Khawaja

Khawaja revealed that a few members of the MCC made some big allegations, and he stopped there for a discussion in order to clarify the matter. But there was no end to the discussion as the members kept going and stuck to their views, which led to an argument between the two parties. Khawaja added seeing such behavior from the members of MCC was very disappointing.

“The crowd is great, particularly the members are great, and some of the stuff that was coming out of the members' mouths is really disappointing and I wasn't just going stand by and cop it. So I just talked to a few of them. A few of them throwing out some pretty big allegations and I just called them up on it and they kept going, and I was like, well, this is your membership here. So I'm just pointing them out. But it's pretty disrespectful, to be honest. I just expect a lot better from the members,” he added.
