'They have been lucky' - Wasim Jaffer on weather not affecting India's fixtures in T20 World Cup
India have played two matches thus far without rain affecting the games and the third one is underway.
One of the biggest blows this tournament has witnessed is the rain gods making their presence felt in the crucial fixtures of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022. Former India cricket Wasim Jaffer highlighted how India have been ‘lucky’ to not have any fixture abandoned due to rain so far.
As teams enter the second week of the Super 12 stage of the marquee tournament, crucial matches await considering the race for the semi-finals is wide open. In week 1 of the event down under, fans witnessed multiple matches getting abandoned without a single ball bowled, ‘upsets’ handed to heavyweights with the application of the DLS method, again due to rain.
Wasim Jaffer highlights Team India’s ‘luck’
During India’s first outing against Pakistan, it was predicted that there would be mild showers and the same was expected against the Netherlands. However, in both fixtures, the Men in Blue played the entire game without any stoppage unlike the other games. Former cricketer Wasim Jaffer voiced his stance on India’s luck with regard to the weather down under.
“India has been lucky, Melbourne (venue for Pakistan match) looked like it would be washed out. But fortunately for everyone, we got to see one of the greatest matches in the T20 World Cup and it looked the same in the Netherlands game and even today against South Africa, there were chances of rain, but I think India have been lucky,” said Jaffer on ‘BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker’.
“In a World Cup event, we don’t want to see games getting washed out as the table gets messed up, teams don’t get an opportunity to play, and it goes right till the end. So, in the end the teams who win, are they really the winners? Because they haven’t played the full match and got a point. And had they played the full match, they could have lost. So, the winners in such a case are those who go through because of no game, and this is not what you want to see. But in this regard, India has been lucky!” added Jaffer.
