Sanju Samson had a brilliant outing for Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League 2024. The RR skipper scored 531 runs in 15 innings and became one of the top scorers of the tournament. On the back of impactful performance, he was included into India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad but the batter did not get to play a single game in the tournament. He toured Zimbabwe and smashed half century in the fifth T20I.

As India is touring Sri Lanka for the white-ball tour, Samsom was snubbed from the ODI squad, and his subordinate, Parag got a chance to feature in both T20Is and ODIs. However, Samsom is still a part of the T20I squad as Suryakumar Yadav has been named as the T20I captain. Former India cricketer, Robin Uthappa, commenting on Kerala batter’s snub said that as history has it, Samsom will find nothing new in the ignorance.

"From Sanju's perspective, this is not the first time he has gone through it? I don't think it will be the last time he will go through it as a player, but Sanju's one-day numbers have been quite incredible. I think, again, with changes in leadership group or changes within the leadership group. Things have to kind of settle down a little bit and we as fans and supporters of the Indian cricket team have to give that space to kind of settle down as well," Uthappa was quoted as saying by India Today.

"So, I think Sanju is not out of contention as with any other player. I think. It's a matter of time, and he will get his opportunity, but when the opportunities do come, he will have to grab those opportunities to make sure he steps up with solid performances that keep him in the running,” he added.

Abhishek, Gaikwad ignored by BCCI for Sri Lanka tour

Not only Samson, but the selection committee has left several fans baffled as the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad were also ignored by the selectors for the Sri Lanka tour. Abhishek scored a quickfire century in the second T20I against Zimbabwe and Gaikwad was at his consistent best being the third-highest run-getter in the series.
