Thunder add Katie Mack, Georgia Voll to better batting depth

Australian stars Katie Mack and Georgia Voll have joined women's regional side Thunder in order to bolster their batting depth. Mack will compete in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy in April-May and again in August-September. Voll, on the other hand, will play for Thunder in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and four 50-over matches from June to July.

The 30-year-old Mack boasts a List A career tally exceeding 3,000 runs, with an impressive average of 37.63. In the 2023/24 Women's National Cricket League (WNCL), the top-order batter impressed with the bat, becoming the third-highest run-scorer, amassing 471 runs at an average of 47.10 for the Australian Capital Territory. She has scored an unbeaten century and three fifties in this tournament.

Voll is an allrounder who is capable of batting in the top six and bowling right-arm off-spin. The 20-year-old also had a memorable WNCL season, accumulating 459 runs, featuring two centuries, while opening the batting for Queensland. With over 1,200 runs and 18 wickets in 50-over matches, along with 903 runs and 10 wickets in T20 outings across her career, she showcases her both batting and bowling prowess.

Upon acquiring the services of Katie Mack and Georgia Voll, Thunder head coach, Chris Read, emphasised the importance of strengthening their batting depth. Read expressed confidence that the Aussie duo will be instrumental in Thunder's pursuit of success.

"Strengthening the depth of our batting department was a key priority for us when going into the market for overseas signings this summer and we are delighted to have been able to do so across both competitions," Read was quoted as saying by The Cricketer.

"Katie will bring a huge amount of experience to our squad, has a proven track record in 50-over cricket and is also coming off the back of a really successful WBBL campaign for herself. Georgia is a hugely talented young cricketer, who has already shown her abilities in the WBBL, and we are excited to see how she goes in the Charlotte Edwards Cup and also in the four 50-over matches that will follow,” Read added.
