UP Warriorz 2023 Player List: UP Warriorz (UPW) Squad and Players List for WPL 2023

UP Warriorz, the Lucknow-based Women's Premier League 2023 (WPL) franchise, enjoyed a great WPL auction, which was held at Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on Monday (February 13). They made big headlines with the signings of Deepti Sharma, Tahlia McGrath Sophie Ecclestone for big bucks and spent INR 12 crore to fill 16 slots from available 18.

The Warriorz made a bid for Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur but backed out as Mumbai Indians spent INR 1.8 crore for the player's signature. They also tried to sign Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner but hesitated to go big as the Delhi Capitals won her bid for a whopping price of INR 3.2 crore. However, they managed to sign world no.1 T20I bowler Sophie Ecclestone in the first round as they outbid Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants to sign the English spin ace for INR 1.8 crore. 

UP Warriorz made their biggest signing of the day by snapping star Indian all-rounder Deepti for INR 2.6 crore after an intense bidding war with Mumbai Indians. Warriorz were one of the most active franchises in the second roun,  with the failed bids for Jemimah Rodriguez and Natalie Sciver. However, they managed to sign star Australian batting all-rounder Tahlia McGrath (INR 1.4 crore) and Shabnim Ismail (INR 1 crore) in the second round.

In the third round, they signed veteran Australian Alyssa Healy and Indian stars Anjali Sarvani and Rajeshwari Gayakwad. In the next round, the Warriorz signed India’s U-19 leg-spinner Parshavi Chopra for INR 10 lakh as well as Shweta Sehrawat, the leading run-scorer for India in the recent T20 U-19 World Cup 2023, for INR 40 lakh.

UP Warriorz went in for many big names as well

In the accelerated round, the Warriorz made big headlines with the signing of Indian all-rounder Devika Vaidya for INR 1.4 crore. They also managed to get star English pacer Lauren Bell at her base price of INR 30 lakh.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shortlisted 409 players (246 Indians and 163 overseas) from a list of 1525 who had registered for the WPL auction. The teams had an INR 12 crore purse to spend on 15 to 18 players, with a maximum of 12 Indians and six overseas cricketers. 

Capri Global Holding Private Limited won the bid for Lucknow-based franchise for INR 757 crore in WPL Team's auction on January 25. They announced the team name as UP Warriorz and also announced the staff for the upcoming season last week.

England Women's team head coach Jon Lewis is appointed as head coach while the former Indian captain Anju Jain will be the assistant coach. Former Australian cricket cricketer Ashley Noffke has been appointed as their bowling coach while four-time World-champion Lisa Sthalekar will be their mentor.
