Veda Krishnamurthy eyes WPL 2024 as pathway to national team comeback
Veda Krishnamurthy wasn't picked by any franchise in WPL 2023.
A couple of personal tragedies have derailed Veda Krishnamurthy's momentum as the 31-year-old has been out of the scheme of things for more than three years now. To add to her challenges, she wasn't picked by any team in the inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL).

Undeterred by these setbacks, Veda has worked hard on her fitness, determined to make a strong comeback in the game. With the upcoming WPL on the horizon, the Karnataka-born cricketer is hoping to secure a contract that will pave her way back into the national team. Speaking about the same, Veda mentioned that she has the ability and experience that’s required to excel in this format and added that she can get into any system and adjust accordingly.
“I feel that the ability and experience I have will not take much time for me to get into a system and adjust again. It is all about going there and showcasing whatever I can. Definitely, it's (WPL) a great platform for players, especially who are on the same boat like me. I haven't played international cricket for the last three years, so this is a platform where you want to do well, and if you are able go and perform in situations and platforms like this it opens up the door for the Indian team as well.
“We have seen that happen in men's cricket. So that is something which I will have in my mind,” Veda was quoted as saying by India Today.
It feels good to be back in shape: Veda
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Veda lost her mother and elder sister in a span of two weeks. Following this, the cricketer faced a lot of mental issues and had troubled sleeping. It took her one and a half years to recover from the incidents, and she mentioned that it comes and goes once in a while. However, she mentioned getting better and happy to be back in shape.
“It took me close to one-and-a-half years to get back to normal without any medicine. It still kind of comes back and haunts you, but you need to keep that side and focus of the physical aspect. It feels good to be back in shape,” Veda mentioned.
