'Virat Kohli could drive this' - David Lloyd reckons India could play Test cricket the England way
Under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, England have won the last seven of their eight Test matches.
In the last few months, England have shown the world how Test cricket is played and the latest example was their memorable 74-run victory over Pakistan in the first match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Monday, December 5.
Meanwhile, former English cricketer David Lloyd has urged the Indian team to take inspiration from the Three Lions’ approach in red-ball cricket. At the same time, he also made it clear that this is only possible for India provide if they are led by Virat Kohli from the front. Lloyd also compared the Ben Stokes-led side to the might West Indies of the 70s and 80s and the Australian team of the 90s.
Notably, ever since Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes have been at the helm of affairs as England’s Test coach, it has resulted in their revival in fortunes in the longest format as they have won seven of the eight Tests they have played so far.
"It is not totally new, of course. The Australian team of the 90s were very positive and the great West Indian sides were full of exhilarating stroke-makers. I reckon a team capable of this style now is India. They have all the tools. There has been a suspicion that Indian batters are stats driven but Virat Kohli is one who could drive this," the former cricketer-turned-commentator wrote in his column for The Daily Mail.
Moreover, England have been playing a fearless brand of cricket in Tests which has been famously labelled the ‘Bazball’. They have following their T20I pattern even in red-ball cricket which was not only evident during the home series against New Zealand and India but also in the just-concluded Rawalpindi Test, which was played on a flat wicket. However, that did not stop England from going for the result.
