Virat Kohli is my Most Valuable Player of T20 World Cup 2022: Habibul Bashar
Virat Kohli has already scored two half-centuries in the T20 World Cup 2022.
Former Bangladesh captain Habibul Bashar has predicted Virat Kohli to win the MVP award in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia. Kohli has been instrumental in India’s two victories so far in the campaign and he played a gem of a knock in the highly talked about India-Pakistan encounter. The 33-year-old remained unbeaten on 82 off 53 balls after Pakistan dismantled the Indian top order, and took the side home from a tough situation.
He continued his magnificent form into the second game against the Netherlands and stepped on the accelerator once he got set. Another unbeaten knock of 62 off 44 balls has taken Kohli’s tally to 144 runs from the two games and he is yet to be dismissed. No wonder, Bashar went with Kohli while picking the MVP of the tournament going by the current form.
Before the tournament started, I thought Jos Buttler is one of the players for MVP award: Habibul Bashar
Bashar mentioned that it is tough to call the MVP of the tournament with plenty of options available and noted about the best of the batters not getting enough chances. He added that England skipper Jos Buttler was definitely on his cards before the start of the tournament and heaped praises on Kohli for his tremendous comeback.
“There are a lot of good players in the tournament. It’s very important to recognise who is in the best form. Sometimes what happens is the best batsmen don’t get enough opportunity to perform. Before the tournament started, I thought Jos Buttler is one of the players for MVP award. But he isn’t scoring runs,” Habibul Bashar told on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' on CricTracker.
“So far, Virat Kohli looks very good. He’s been probably the best and has come back in top form. If India goes through, I think Virat Kohli can be the most valuable player of the tournament,” he added.
Notably, Kohli has won the Player of the Tournament awards in 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups already.
