Faf du Plessis has been named as the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. This comes after Axar Patel was recently declared as the franchise's captain on Friday, March 14.

Delhi Capitals unveiled du Plessis' role with a rather creative post on social media. The clip involved du Plessis pretending to converse over a phone call, calling the Arun Jaitley Stadium as his "home', thereby announcing his capacity with his latest franchise.

Du Plessis was acquired by DC for INR 2 crore. This will be his fourth franchise in the marquee T20 league. After spending three years with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he was released by the franchise ahead of the mega auction in November 2024. DC purchased the former South African skipper in a bid to bolster their top-order batting.

Having announced international retirement in 2021, du Plessis' sole focus has been playing in domestic franchise tournaments in the time that followed. He was recently involved with Joburg Super Kings in the recently concluded edition of the SA20. The 40-year-old led his side to the Eliminator of the competition. He scored 286 runs in 10 innings.

IPL 2025 is scheduled to commence on Saturday, March 22. DC is set to begin its campaign with a clash against Lucknow Super Giants on Monday, March 24, at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The franchise's first couple of games will be played at this venue. It will only be later in the tournament that DC will get to play in front of the Delhi crowd at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. They finished in sixth position the previous year, ending up with seven wins and as many losses in 14 games.
