Punjab posted a fighting 147 runs on a pitch which was on a slower side.
Rajasthan Royals took on Punjab Kings in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League 2024. The MYIC Stadium in Mullanpur proved to be a batter's nightmare. RR won the toss and opted to bowl first. Atharva Taide and Jonny Bairstow saw through some tight deliveries at first. They departed after scoring 15 runs each. No other batter in the middle order crossed the 20-run mark barring Prabhsimran Singh.
Prabhsimran contributed 29 runs and Liam Livingstone surprisingly batted down the order. While Livingstone amassed 21 runs, it was Ashutosh Sharma’s quickfire 31 off 16 that filled life into PBKS innings. Punjab posted a fighting 147 runs on a pitch which was on a slower side. For RR, Avesh Khan and Keshav Maharaj picked two wickets each.

Sanju Samson and Avesh Khan’s miscommunication costs a wicket
RR had a tight grip on the game until Ashutosh arrived at the crease. The batter who was cautious at the start, began to smash boundaries. During that phase, in the 19th over, Avesh bowled an angled ball as Punjab batter did not time well. The ball flew up as Sanju and Avesh both went for the only to let it slip away.

Sharma batted as if it was a different pitch altogether for him. The Punjab innings, which lacked maximums was provided one by the right-handed batter. It was his onslaught that propelled PBKS’ run rate from under six runs to over seven runs per over.
Sanju is involved in yet another miscommunicated catch attempt
The RR captain was involved in yet another catching attempt, but it ended on a brighter side. Avesh was bowling to Jitesh and a mistimed pull got the ball to travel vertically. Though it was a wicket-keeper’s catch, Kuldeep Sen grabbed it as Sanju’s gloves acted as protection below.
