West Indies Women vs England Women: Shakera Selman, Chedean Nation to miss first two T20Is with injuries
Youngsters Djenaba Joseph and Trishan Holder have been named replacements while spinner Karishma Ramharack returns after missing the ODI series due to injury.
West Indies have suffered a big blow as the experienced duo of Shakera Selman and Chedean Nation are ruled out of the first two T20Is against England. West Indies lost all three ODIs after poor performance and now host England in the five T20Is starting on Monday (December 12) in Antigua.
Both Selman and Nation featured in the third ODI but sustained injuries. West Indies have replaced the injured duo with youngsters Trishan Holder and Djeneba Joseph. Both Hodler and Dejeneba are part of the West Indies U-19 squad for the upcoming Women's Under-19 T20 World Cup in South Africa, starting from January 14.
However, both prospects are already in Antigua for a high-performance camp with U19 Rising Stars and will join the senior team. The 27-year-old right-arm off-spinner Karishma Ramharack returns to the squad after missing the entire ODI series due to injury.
The lead selector Ann Browne-John confirmed the absence of injured players for the first two T20Is and addressed to other players to step up to earn a place in the upcoming 2023 Women's World Cup squad.
"The upcoming T20 series is vitally important as the team continues its preparations for the [senior women's] World Cup in February 2023. With some of the senior players missing out through injury, it is an ideal opportunity for the other players to start cementing a place in the World Cup team," lead selector Ann Browne-John said in a official statement on Sunday (December 11).
"Based on injuries in the ODI series, Chedean Nation and Shakera Selman have been ruled out at this time. Two members of the Under-19 World Cup squad, Djenaba Joseph and Trishan Holder, who have been making great progress, have been named to the squad and we believe that they will fit in well and absorb the experience. Karishma Ramharack returns to the team after missing the ODI series due to injury, and Shamilia Connell who was on the injured list for the ODIs is also expected to be ready to be considered for selection later in the series," Ann Browne-John added.
