'We've got a series to win and an eye on the World Cup' - Phil Salt wants England to continue winning momentum against Australia
Salt wants to continue his good run with the bat and press his case for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
England's opening batter Phil Salt is looking to have a good outing in the first T20I encounter against Australia, to be played at the Perth Stadium. He wants to strengthen his case for the upcoming T20 World Cup. Team Australia will take on England in a three-match T20I series starting on Sunday.
Salt has good memories while playing in Perth as the dasher played an excellent knock of 59 runs in just 31 balls during the 2020 Big Bash League (BBL) against the home team. The right-handed batter is expecting the wicket to be fast and bouncy which suits his style of play.
"Expecting it to be fast and bouncy. It's a good wicket to bat, suits my game," he told reporters on Friday. "The boundaries are pretty big square and generally does suit the guys who are stronger square of the wicket.
Salt had a decent outing during the Pakistan tour
Salt had a decent outing during the recently concluded T20I series against Pakistan as he was adjudged player of the match in the sixth T20I encounter. He played a blistering knock of unbeaten 88 runs and help his side to chase the total. The right-handed batter believes that the series against Australia is equally important as the Three Lions need to continue their winning momentum.
"It's a series to win and we've got an eye on the World Cup," he said. "It's very important to keep the momentum rolling after Pakistan. To beat them in their own conditions...that's very tough to do. We played with a lot of guys who hadn't played much international cricket so we're pretty happy with how that went. We want to keep the ball rolling and continue the momentum," said Salt.
As mentioned above, the visitors will face Australia in a three-match T20I series with the first match to be played on September 9 (Sunday). The next two matches of the series will be played in Canberra.
