What Hardik Pandya did against Rajasthan Royals was kind of a statement: Shaun Tait
Hardik smashed 39* off 15 to take his team over the line in the 14th over against RR.
Defending champions Gujarat Titans continued their dominance in the IPL 2023 with a thumping victory over Rajasthan Royals in the 48th match of the tournament. After bundling the home side on a mere 118, the Hardik Pandya-led side won the clash by nine wickets in Jaipur. Talking about the same, former Australia cricketer Shaun Tait came up to praise skipper Hardik who has been doing some excellent work on the field.
Tait added that the efforts Hardik put in against the Royals were kind of a statement as he smashed 39* off 15. Tait believes that GT could have crossed the line in the 19th over comfortably but the skipper operated with the strike rate of 260 to see them take the game in the 14th over itself.
“What Hardik did tonight was kind of a statement I suppose. Certainly, could have come in and nudged them around and get them over the line in the 19th over. I liked the way he went about that,” said Tait on Pandya’s performance while talking to ESPNcricinfo.
When you're not changing your team too often, that's a good sign: Shaun Tait.
The former pacer also stated that not altering the team too often is a good sign and GT's squad certainly reflects that. While Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill’s 71 runs were vital for the opening stand, the Titans' skipper made sure that there is no delay in crossing the line as he played a blistering knock to wrap up the chase real quick. With the win, GT continue to sit on the top of the points table with 14 points while RR have slipped to the fourth spot.
“When you're not changing your team too often, that's a good sign. When Mumbai were going through their dynasty, they didn't change often. They kept it so simple. Guys bowling in the same spots, batting order tinkering when needed. Chennai do it well and this side looks like they're on the same track,” added Tait.
