The Asian Games 2023 women’s T20 tournament has been full of ups and downs. The tournament saw many unexpected developments, as rain played spoilsport throughout several games, which affected the results of the clashes.

The rain saw arch-rivals India and Pakistan women make their way into the semi-finals of the competition. Pakistan women took on Indonesia women, but the rain caused the game to be abandoned. On the other hand, the clash between India and Malaysia did get underway, but the proceedings were shortly curtailed due to rain.

It is worth noting that according to the rules of the Asian Games, if a knockout game is marred by rain and is abandoned, the team with the higher ICC ranking or the top-seeded side will proceed further into the competition.

Asian Games men’s tournament sees significant progress as well

The men's schedule for the Asian Games 2022 is out, and the teams are fighting hard to get a spot in the quarter-finals. All the games in the schedule will be played at the Zhejiang University of Technology Cricket Field, Hangzhou, for the men's leg of the event. Notably, India have already qualified for the quarter-final of the continental event, as they are one of the top-ranked sides as per ICC's rankings.

Speaking of India's schedule, the first quarter-final is scheduled to be played on October 3. It is, however, to be noted that the Indian team's opposition is yet to be determined. One of the three qualifiers from the event will face India in the knockouts. If India win, they will move to the semis, where they will face off against one of the winners from the quarter-finals.

It is worth mentioning that Ruturaj Gaikwad will be leading the Indian contingent in the Asian Games 2022, and many other prominent names who performed well in the Indian domestic circuit have also been awarded a place in the squad. It includes names like Rinku Singh, Arshdeep Singh, Mukesh Kumar, and Jitesh Sharma, to name a few.

Although India's schedule includes a solitary fixture, currently, the Men in Blue's squad certainly looks like favourites to reach the ultimate clash on October 7.

Going into the tournament, the Indian captain for the marquee event has shown signs of being in sublime form, as he notched up a brilliant fifty against Australia in the first ODI of the ongoing series, which was played at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali, on Friday, September 22.
