Why is Temba Bavuma not playing ICC World Cup 2023, match 23 against Bangladesh?
Temba Bavuma missed South Africa's previous clash as well.
Game 23 of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 featured a clash between South Africa and Bangladesh at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday, October 24. As the toss approached, Proteas fans were presented with a turn of events as regular skipper Temba Bavuma was missing once again.
It is worth noting that Bavuma missed South Africa’s clash against England previously due to gastric illness, and once again, he is not leading South Africa against Bangladesh in Mumbai. It has been informed that Bavuma hasn't fully recovered from the gastric illness he suffered before the England game and that he will be rested for the clash as a precautionary measure.
Notably, despite not having the services of Bavuma in their previous game against England, South Africa managed to register a sensational victory against the defending champions. As the game against Bangladesh approaches, it could be interesting to see how the side fares once again without their regular skipper.
Lungi Ngidi misses out against Bangladesh as well
Apart from Bavuma, the Proteas made another change in their lineup for their clash against Bangladesh. Ace pacer Lungi Ngidi was announced to have been rested against the Shakib Al Hasan-led side as well.
Stand-in skipper Aiden Markram informed at the toss that Lizaad Williams will be the player to replace Ngidi as he gears up for his World Cup debut. Furthermore, the reason for Ngidi’s absence in game 23 is a mild knee niggle that he has been struggling from.
However, apart from the two changes, the Proteas fielded the same lineup that helped them defeat defending champions England. Talking of the clash, South Africa posted a total of 399 runs in the first innings against England and managed to bundle them out for 170 runs, winning the game by 229 runs.
