Cricket West Indies (CWI) have officially confirmed that the players will take a knee before the upcoming Tests in Australia to continue their support for the fight against racism, inequality and injustice. The Caribbean nation has been following it since the tour to England in July, 2020 and they have also been wearing the logo of Black Lives Matter on their playing shirts for the past two years.
In fact, West Indies had also carried out the act during the two-match T20I series in Australia after they received permission from ICC. Notably, the logo on the shirt has been designed with a clenched fist in place of the letter “A” in the word “Black”.
Further, both West Indies and Australian players will take a barefoot circle moment to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land and connect to each other as opponents and pay respect to the country. This is seen as a great gesture for the visiting players to show respect for the host nation.
Coming to the two-match series, the first Test starts on November 30 at the Perth Stadium while the second Test, the first pink-ball Test for West Indies against Australia will played from December 8 at the Adelaide Oval in South Australia.
