Women’s Big Bash League 2022: Where to Watch, Schedule, Squads, and All you need to know

The eighth edition of the much-awaited Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) is all set to begin on October 13 at Ray Mitchell Oval, Harrup Park, in Mackay. Brisbane Heat will take on the Sydney Sixers in the very first match of the tournament.

Even after being one of the most successful teams in the history of the competition, the Sixers were in shambles in the last season. They could collect only 9 points in 14 matches while Brisbane Heat finished third in the table. Perth Scorchers managed to top the charts and also won the prestigious trophy by defeating Adelaide Strikers in the finals.

Wicket-keeper batter Bethany Mooney with 3674 runs is the leading run-scorer in the history of the tournament. Representing Perth Scorchers, the veteran is a highly consistent and the team will once again bank on her to win to defend the trophy. With the ball, the 30-year-old Molly Strano is the leading wicket-taker in the history of the tournament. She picked up 119 wickets in 99 matches and has an economy of 6.64 in the history of the tournament. 

This season, a lot of new rules have been added to the Women’s Big Bash as DRS will be an integral part of the tournament. However, there's a twist in the story. The broadcasters will not be broadcasting all the matches on television and thus, DRS will not play a role in a lot of matches. 

The teams will also have to finish their quota of 20 overs within 79 minutes, minus some allowances. In case the teams fail to do so, a penalty will be incurred as a player will have to be inside the 30-yard circle in the remainder of the match. Other than that, the Power Surge will be introduced for the first time in the tournament. In this, the teams will have the mandatory powerplay of four overs and then, they can choose to take the powerplay at any time between the 11th-20th over.
