WPL 2024 Match 18 Highlights: Gujarat Giants Women vs UP Warriorz Women
Gujarat Giants Women beat UP Warriorz Women by eight runs in Match 18 of WPL 2024 to stay alive in the knockouts race.
Gujarat Giants Women (GG-W) registered their second win of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) as they beat UP Warriorz by eight wickets in Match 18 on Monday, March 12 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. After opting to bat first, Gujarat posted a good score of 152/8 in their allotted 20 overs riding on brilliant knocks from captain Beth Mooney and Laura Wolvaardt (43 off 30).
Sophie Ecclestone shone with the ball for UP registering figures of 3/38 in four overs. In reply, UP could only manage to score 144/5 in their allotted 20 overs with Deepti Sharma being the lone warrior with her third consecutive half-century of the season. Courtesy of their win, Gujarat kept themselves alive in the knockouts race while UP have their fate in GG and Royal Challengers Bangalore’s hands.

1. Beth Mooney registers third consecutive half-century of the season
The Gujarat Titans captain once again led her side from the front as she registered her third consecutive fifty of the season. The southpaw was dropped twice during her knock and made full use of her reprieves playing a magnificent knock of 74* (52) with the help of ten fours and a six. Mooney clobbered five boundaries in the last over bowled by Sophie Ecclestone and propelled her team’s score to 152/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
2. Shabnam Shakil shines with the new ball
The right-arm seamer emerged as the pick of the bowlers for Gujarat as she made a brilliant comeback after being hit for a four off the first delivery by Alyssa Healy and got her out on the third ball. She further got the prized scalp of Chamari Athapaththu (0 off 3) in the same over and later destroyed the stumps of Shweta Sehrawat (8 off 9) to register figures of 3/11 in four overs.

3. Deepti Sharma continues her marvellous form
Sharma walked to the crease with UP on 4/2 after the first over which quickly turned to 35/5 after seven overs. However, the southpaw didn’t let the situation bog her down as she played a scintillating knock of 88* (60) with the help of nine fours and four sixes to keep her side in the game. However, she eventually failed to score ten off the last two balls resulting in an eight-run loss for her side.
