WPL 2024, Match 20 Review: Delhi Capitals women dominate Gujarat Giants women in enthralling clash

Game 20 of the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024) featured a clash between Gujarat Giants women and Delhi Capitals women at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, March 13. The clash began with Gujarat Giants coming in to bat first after winning the toss. 

The side got off to a horrid start as openers Laura Wolvaardt and Beth Mooney scored seven and zero runs, respectively. Dayalan Hemalatha added four runs on the board as the misery piled on for Gujarat. Phoebe Litchfield and Ashleigh Gardner added 21 and 12 runs, respectively. Whereas, Bharti Fulmali put in a resilient performance, scoring 42 runs in 36 balls as Gujarat posted a total of 126 runs in the first innings. 

Furthermore, Kathryn Bryce stayed unbeaten on a knock of 28 runs as Gujarat posted a total of 126 runs in the first innings of the WPL 2024 encounter. As for Delhi Capitals, Marizanne Kapp, Shikha Pandey, and Minnu Mani were the highest wicket takers, with two wickets each to their names. Jess Jonassen struck once as well. 

Shafali Verma propels Delhi Capitals to resounding win

Aiming to chase down the target of 127 runs, Delhi Capitals got off to a subpar start as opener Meg Lanning departed on a score of 18 runs. However, Shafali Verma put in a performance for the ages, scoring 71 runs in 37 deliveries. Furthermore, Jemimah Rodrigues played an unbeaten knock of 38 runs in 28 deliveries. Delhi Capitals chased down the target in 13.1 overs and won the game by seven wickets.

As for Giants, Tanuja Kanwar was the only wicketkeeper with two wickets to her name. After the win, Capitals now sit at the helm of the WPL 2024 standings with 12 points in eight games. On the other hand, Gujarat Giants women maintain their last place in the standings with four points in eight matches.
