WTC 2023-25 Points Table: Here's a look at the latest standings after Sri Lanka's commendable win against Bangladesh in Chattogram Test
India find themselves at the top, while England are ninth with just three wins in the current WTC cycle.
After winning the first Test of the two-match Test series in Sylhet by overpowering Bangladesh by a whopping 328-run, Sri Lanka continued on their own merry way, proceeding to whitewash the home team by 192 runs in the second Test in Chattogram. With this resounding victory, Sri Lanka leapfrogged to fourth position in the WTC standings, with Bangladesh slumping to the penultimate place.
After six Lankan batters scored half-centuries in the first innings, the hosts were bowled out for a meagre 178 in their first innings, granting a mammoth 353-run lead, from which they could never truly recover. Even after reducing Sri Lanka to 157/7 on which they declared setting a monumental target of 511 to be chased down by Bangladesh, the Bangla Tigers fell short by 192 runs, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz stranded on 81* (110), being Bangladesh's highest run-getter in the fourth innings of the match.
Notably, Kamindu Mendis, the eventual Player of the Series, bowled for the very first time in his nascent three-match Test career in the final innings of the series, with the ambidextrous cricketer scalping three wickets in a splendid 10-over spell.
