Yorkshire has appointed Jonny Bairstow as their captain for Division One of the County Championship.
Yorkshire has appointed Jonny Bairstow as their captain for Division One of the County Championship. The tournament will start next week, and Bairstow will get a chance to shine and make a way back into England's red-ball squad. The player went unsold in the IPL and was also dropped from the English team.
The last time he played for England was in the T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals against India, where they lost the game. It's been a long time since the player has been away from international cricket. Bairstow is following in his late father's footsteps, who was also the captain of Yorkshire between 1984 and 1988. The player was quite ecstatic about getting the chance to lead the team.
"I am incredibly proud to have been named captain of Yorkshire. The county is embedded in my heart, and I take immense pride in representing the club on the field. I'm very pleased and excited for what the season holds. We've got a great bunch of lads who have been working really hard over a period of time. It was fantastic, first of all, for us to get promoted last year after what has been a very tough couple of years for the club," said Bairstow, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
Dawid Malan to lead Yorkshire in the T20 Blast
For the T20 Blast, Yorkshire has appointed an experienced Dawid Malan as their captain. The player has expressed gratitude to the director of cricket and the coaches for having his back throughout and pushing him to new responsibilities.
"To be appointed captain in any format of cricket for Yorkshire CCC, with the history it's got, is a proud moment and exciting moment as well. It's not only me with the new leadership, we've got a whole new leadership behind me with coaches and the director of cricket. So it's an extremely exciting time for the club and hopefully, you know, we can put some things in place that put white-ball cricket in a good place at Yorkshire," said Malan, as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
