'You are excellence personified' - PM Modi's special message for Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma & Rahul Dravid after T20 World Cup win

In a historic victory, the Indian cricket team clinched the T20 World Cup, defeating South Africa by seven runs in a nail-biting final at Barbados on Saturday night.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the first to congratulate the team, speaking to them over the phone on Sunday morning and praising their remarkable performance throughout the tournament.

“Spoke to the Indian cricket team and congratulated them on their exemplary success at the T20 World Cup. They have shown excellent skill and spirit throughout the tournament. Each player’s commitment is very motivating,” PM Narendra Modi on X (formally Twitter).

In a series of heartfelt posts, Modi lauded the contributions of outgoing head coach Rahul Dravid, captain Rohit Sharma, and star batetr Virat Kohli. Both Sharma and Kohli announced their retirement from T20 internationals following the victory.

“Dear @ImRo45, You are excellence personified. Your aggressive mindset, batting and captaincy have given a new dimension to the Indian team. Your T20 career will be remembered fondly. Delighted to have spoken to you earlier today,” Modi wrote, acknowledging Sharma's impactful leadership and career.

The Prime Minister also praised Virat Kohli for his crucial role in the team's batting lineup, acknowledging his splendid performance in the finals and overall career. He expressed confidence that Kohli would continue to inspire the next generation of players even after retiring from T20 cricket.

Modi did not forget to mention the significant contributions of Rahul Dravid, whose coaching has been instrumental in the team's success. He expressed gratitude for Dravid's role in transforming the team and inspiring generations, and congratulated him on the World Cup victory.
